Julie Arthur has been weaving since 1972 when she took a class at the University of Minnesota. She quickly fell in love with the process and the art. A second class was taken but since then, learning has been from experience except for one short class in 2011 on rep weaving.

In 1973 a friend explained the art of spinning. After a year of working on a drop spindle, an Ashford wheel was procured.  Naturally what followed was learning the basics of dyeing the yarns that were created. 

The studio is filled with yarns, looms, and all the tools of the trade. From that chaos emerges woven objects such as rugs, scarves, shrugs, and shawls many made from hand-dyed threads or hand-spun wools. Each year new techniques are tried, old patterns redone while gathering inspiration from the nature surrounding her home. 

Julie has many interests including family, canoeing, hiking, and gardening.  She lives with her husband and weaves on the north shore of Lake Superior that she has adopted as her home.
